Baskent University Library is an important center for education and research which provides necessary information and sources for its users.


 The library space consists of 3 different rooms:  the Serials Room, the Reading Room, and the Reference Room.  The library can handle approximately 367 people at the same time.

        The library network works on Bliss-Unix Automation System which can serve 38 user at the same time. The automation system holds a database of all the library material. Users may search the material by entering keywords and then reach the material of their choice. (Classified by subject)

Also the circulation process is realized by computer system. The system produces automatic reports for late turn-arounds.

The library uses the Library of Congress Classification System except for books on medicine which are classified by the  National Library of Medicine's Classification System. For the cataloguing process, the library uses Anglo American Cataloguing Rules 2.

According to the 1 January- 31 December 2006 annual report,  there are 5892 registered users. Non-registered university staff and non-Başkent users can use the library with borrowing restrictions. Between 1 January and 31 December 2006, 38287 books were lent.

With donations and new subscriptions, our acquisitions  reached a total number of 1028 during the 2006-2007 academic year.  Between 1 January and 31 December 2006, 23371 users used these publications.

Many new faculties were established in the university in 2006-2007 academic year. Because of their needs, our collection needed improving as well. 9406 new materials were added to the collection between 1 January and 31 December 2006, bringing the total to 100323.

Başkent University Library was connected to the internet in June 1995.  Since 1997, the library has had a fiber connection to the Ulaknet server to conduct global research activities.

Our website was created in 1999, with a fully automated catalog search.

The library staff consists of 24 personnel. 13 employees have a library science degree, 3 employees have an undergraduate degree, 2 employees have a college degree and 6 employees have a high school diploma.
